Harpies are large, semi-avian predators native to Proteus.

Physiology

Harpies resemble large, blue eagles, but with disturbingly humanoid faces. Wingspans of thirteen feet are not unheard of.

Their flight is possible due to their well-developed pectoral muscles and very light skeleton.

Their hands and feet are tipped with sharp claws, for grabbing prey.

They salivate profusely during feeding, which spoils the food for other animals.

Reproduction

In a Harpy pack, only the alpha male and female can mate, as they kill any other babies. A clutch of 3-8 eggs is produced, which must be incubated (by low-importance females) for three months.

Diet

These creatures are predators, and are some of the most ferocious and hazardous in their biosphere.

Behaviour

Harpies live in packs containing up to twenty individuals. Working together, they can bring down creatures up to ten times their size.

With smaller animals, they tend to dive and grab the creature, ripping it apart and swallowing it on the fly.

These animals are highly intelligent; early Typhon tribes believed that they were the spirits of the dead.
