Proteus is a moon that orbits the gas giant planet Proteus Prime. It is notable as the homeworld of the Typhons.

Characteristics

Proteus is classed as THI.

Size

Proteus has a mass which is 0.69 times Earth's. Its mass is 0.69 times the amount, and it has a density of 85%, so its gravity is 0.79Gs on the surface.

Composition

Proteus' crust is 38.2% oxygen, 32.5% iron, 26.3% silicon, 2.6% other metals, and 0.4% other elements.

Rotation

Proteus takes 23.07 hours to rotate on its axis, and is tidally locked to Proteus Prime. Its axial tilt is almost 1°.

Because of its being tidally locked, there is an eclipse every day. There are no seasons.

Surface

55% of Proteus' surface is water. Due to the tidal forces and orbital resonances it is exposed to, there is much tectonic activity. The average surface temperature is 29°, though it ranges from 14° to 35°.

Atmosphere

Proteus' atmosphere is breathable. It is 76.3% nitrogen, 22.9% oxygen, and trace other gases. The amount of sulphur dioxide in its atmosphere makes it dangerous to most life not evolved here.

Inhabitants

Proteus is home to a wide variety of plants and animals. Flora is actually quite similar to that of Terra, with trees, grasses, etc. However, there is a warm, bright winter, so alpine trees are rare and there is no taiga or tundra.

The fauna deviates more greatly than the plants. Multiple heads is a feature of many animals, for some unknown reason.

Native creatures include:

History

For a time, Proteus was the center of Typhon civilization. However, recently the Daemons invaded this planet, destroying many major cities. The planet is currently divided between the Daemons and a group of remnant Typhons.
