Physiology

With a wingspan of up to 3.4m and reaching masses of 49kg, the Ralak is a semi-crustaceous animal with wings derived from a pair of limbs. Feather-like scales grow from the arm, forming the body of the wing. These are tough and aerodynamic.

The Ralak has a long tail, which is tipped by a barb. This produces a paralytic toxin which is most effective when injected near the brain of the prey, and so the Ralak tends to attack the eyes. The creature has four legs, ending in opposable talon-like digits which have serrated claws for maximum grip.

Eyesight is the main sense used by the Ralak. It is extremely sensitive to the colour red, being able to see spilled blood from several kilometres away.

The mouth of the Ralak is like a a cephalod's beak, with the edges serrated to allow it to slice through flesh. It is ossified and constantly grows from the base.

Diet

A carnivore and a part-time scavenger, the Ralak is very opportunistic. It will attack any animal smaller than itself and will go for any reasonably fresh carrion.

Reproduction

A viviparous animal, the Ralak produces between three and five young after a two-month gestation period, once per year in the middle of spring. A nest is made in advance on the cliffs of the mountains in which they live. The mother cares for her offspring alone, bringing back chunks of food for them to eat. Initially, she chews the meat while returning it, then regurgitates it out for them. This allows easier digestion.
