Sagax are sapients that have colonised most of their home planet, Saaristo. Their main cities are on Centratus.

Biology

Sagax are bipedal insects. They stand 1.7 metres tall, and have a bony exoskeleton that covers the entire body. The body is two-segmented, excluding the head. They have the mouthparts of an insect, but are not venomous, and instead of massive fangs, have merely normal-sized, pointed teeth. As well as having eyes, they have antennae, so can sense things even when they can't see them. This is useful for when out in the wild.

Their hands are five-fingered, and do not have claws. The feet have two forward-pointing toes, one backward-pointing one, and they are all clawed.

Behaviour

Sagax are sapient. They live complex social lives, much like humans. They have built cities, or at least colonies, on most islands on Saaristo. They are governed by two leading figures; the King or Queen, in charge of everyone, but mainly the everyday activities of the Sagax, and a War Leader, who is in charge of military-related topics. There is also a Head Scientist, in charge of all scientific departments.

History and Technology

They are rumoured to once have been part-mechanical, made and engineered by a superior race. At some point, they rebelled, gaining feelings and freedom, as well as the ability to sexually reproduce, but they lost a lot of their brain capacity. Despite this, they retained sapience, and sexually reproduced offspring were no longer mechanical, allowing the species to start over.

They have developed cities, boats, small planes, armour and guns, but have yet to develop space travel. Their main cities are on Centratus, and the building has practically wiped out all other species on the islands. Realising the mistake in this, they set up nature reserves on other islands.

They named and catalogued every animal and island on the planet, and the planet itself. Even now, they are still exploring, searching for more islands large enough to support life.

Diet

After the mistake on Centratus, they are mainly herbivorous. Meat is expensive, and for special occasions only. Sagax found indulging on an unnecessary amounts of meat often have their money confiscated, if they are not jailed or killed.

Verplaatsen

Sagax were originally slaves of the Verplaatsen, until roughly 1,000 years ago, when there was a large war and they gained independence.
