The Sarai are the founding species of the Urrun League in the Empyrean universe. They are Class XI sapients.

The Stratronus are their willing servants.

Physiology

4m-long bipeds, the Sarai have heads bearing large crests and large black eyes. Their legs are long and end in three splayed and prehensile toes with clawed ends, which are used as manipulators. The Sarai must balance on one leg to use tools, which they can do for hours on end with their superior sense of balance.

Their skin is soft and white, without any covering. However, it is quite thick and durable.

Their livers and kidneys are fused into one organ. They have no stomach, instead secreting acid and enzymes within the oesophagus that digest the ball of food as it is pushed through the top of the intestine. Their lungs are large and six in number.

Diet

Omnivorous sapients, the Sarai eat meat, vegetables, and nuts. They expel indigestible materials like bone and cellulose as pellets from the mouth.

Reproduction

Sarai have long lives, reaching up to 200 years old without cybernetics. They reproduce slowly, females only being fertile every third year whereas males are constantly fertile. Gestation takes 12 months, and the offspring are born with tiny headcrests, only 60cm long.

It takes them 25 years to grow to their full size and become sexually mature.

Intelligence

The Sarai are intelligent sapients. They sometimes seem a little ruthless to other races, but are generally moral creatures.

Society

Sarai society is a strict hierarchy. There are workers, academics and leaders. It is forbidden to leave your tier, so marriage to members of another tier are illegal, though a small number of workers have become leaders through distinguished military service.

Amongst the leaders there is also a divide, with the mysterious Ekhura at the top and various generals and councillors underneath. There is a secret police which creates a culture of fear amongst the Sarai.

Technology

The Sarai have advanced technology, being interuniversal sapients.

Spaceships

Sarai spaceships can be 200km long, with enormous accelerator cannons and laser weapons. They often hold many thousands of ultra-high-yield antimatter or refined nuclear devices, as well as deployable siege and missile drones.

They have very thick alloyed and spaced hulls, and powerful defense shields including repulsor and vaporiser technology.

Weapons

Sarai ground weapons include handheld missile launchers, railguns and particle beams.

Settlements

Sarai settlements tend to be very large cities. They are usually built on top of a disc of metal, which can be dozens of miles across, and have several tiers. Well-defended, with hundreds of turrets and many spaceports, they are often capable of moving on their own.

History

It is not known which planet or even which galaxy the Sarai came from. However, their civilisation is significantly older than that of the other League races.

When the Hane came and declared war on the Acata and Lahi, the Sarai stepped in and prevented any major conflict. They enabled the races to meet on common ground and formed the Urrun League to solidify their alliance. Similiar events occurred when the Massar attacked.

They remain the most powerful and influential member species.

Relations with other races

The Sarai place much emphasis on building alliances and assisting other interuniversal races.

Acata

The Sarai and Acata are firm allies, and two of the original members of the League.

Lahi

As the Lahi were original members of the League, their ties with the Sarai are strong.

Hane

The Hane hold great respect for the Sarai.

Massar

The Massar are allies of the Sarai.

Iuto

The Sarai and Iuto are firm friends.

Xatdun

The Sarai support Xatdun membership into the League. They are allies.
