Gaedrongo (plural Gaedrongos) are a sapient race from an unknown planet.

Biology

Appearance

Size

Gaedrongos stand upright, and are about two and a half metres long. Their tail, which extends behind the body, can be up to five metres long. Altogether, they weigh five hundred kilograms, and more if they are in battle armour.

Head

A Gaedrongo has a pointed forehead. The point is bone, covered in skin, and is angled forwards and upwards. They have their eyes and mouth underneath the point, but have no external nose.

The eyes are small, yet Gaedrongos have good eyesight, and the mouth is filled with teeth laid out like a human, except they are pointed.

Torso

The torso of a Gaedrongo is covered in hard, horny scales, front and back. These scales are normally greenish in colour. The shoulders of the Gaedrongo are broad, and the torso gets slowly narrower as it tapers away to a tail.

A Gaedrongo has two arms. They are thick, well-muscled and scaled like the rest of the body. The hands are four fingered, and all the fingers are clawed. The armpits of a Gaedrongo are the only parts not scaled, as scales rubbing against each other would cause constant discomfort.

Tail

Gaedrongos slither a bit like worms, with their torso upright and the tail dragging behind. It is also scaled. The tail is five metres long, and in the last metre or so, it branches into three prongs. The end to each prong is hardened, and spiked. The spike can be used as a weapon.

Muscle Structure

In a Gaedrongo, the arm and tail muscles are most important.

The tail is coiled up, and then pushed to propel the Gaedrongo forward. This means that the tail muscles must be strong, so the musculature has also adapted to be thick, except in the prongs, which are thinner. The Gaedrongo can use its muscles to move each prong individually, so the prongs can be used as extra fingers.

Bone Structure

The spike on a Gaedrongo’s head is solid bone, as is the rest of the skull. The rib cage is like that of a human, but larger and stronger. The spine is also similar, until it branches off into three parts.

The vertebrae are already small by this point, but at the prongs they are even smaller, making the prongs flexible.

Diet

Gaedrongos are omnivorous. They use their hands to tear flesh, or pick plants, fruits, nuts and eggs, and they then deliver it to the mouth. To help them survive, Gaedrongos are pretty adaptable when it comes to food.

Behaviour

Life Cycle

Gaedrongos have live young. When they are born, they look more a mass of tentacles as the prongs take up most of the tail in a young individual. The baby is reared by its family, and their friends, until it reaches a few years old. Then it is expected to start standing up for itself, and around then, it will start to become less dependent on help from others.

From fifteen years old, Gaedrongos can mate. Mating normally happens in summer, and the baby is born next spring. Twins and triplets are rare, while quadruplets are practically unheard of. There has only ever been one recorded occurrence of quintuplets in Gaedrongo history.

Social Unit

Gaedrongos work in war tribes. Each tribe normally consists of a couple of hundred individuals, and whole nations only gather in times of great need.

There is little ranking in war tribes. There is a leader, and he will select two assistants to keep the group in order. Each assistant will be charged with one hundred Gaedrongos. If any Gaedrongo feels the current leader is weak, he may challenge him to a no-weapons duel. If the challenger wins, he becomes the new leader. The same rule does not apply to the assistants. If one is killed, the leader elects a new one.

Technology

Back when the Gaedrongo race was united, they reached great technological achievements.

Weapons

Basic Rifle – The basic rifle used by a Gaedrongo fires small titanium bullets at a rate of five per second.

Heavy Assault Rifle – This rifle is more advanced. It has two barrels, both worked by the same trigger. Each barrel fires pointed titanium bullets at a rate of ten per second, resulting in twenty per second when at full power. These rifles also have larger magazines, as they use them up quicker.

Plasma Rifle – These rifles fire a concentrated plasma beam, guided by a laser. The plasma is so dense it is almost solid.

Energy Gun – These guns are designed for clipping on a tail prong. The tail is then mobile enough to push the trigger. When this happens, the gun generates a ball of electricity, and then shoots a bolt at the enemy. The bolt is guided by a laser.

Armour

Helmet – The Gaedrongo helmet is sturdy and has no moveable parts. There are small eye holes, and only a visor for speaking through. The helmet is titanium.

Torso Armour – This armour is also titanium. A blue light in the centre generates an energy field around the armour, giving anyone that touches the armour an electric shock.

Gauntlets – The arms are not well armoured, but large titanium gauntlets protect all but the claws. The titanium has been engineered to be flexible so the Gaedrongos can still move their fingers while wearing them. Spikes extended outwards and backwards from the gauntlets, forming meagre protection for the arms.

Tail Plates – Small, titanium plates armour the tail, connected by chain mail to make it flexible. The prongs are unarmoured.

Spaceships

Battleship

Gaedrongo battleships are roughly triangular, with cannons protruding from the sides. There are plasma cannons, projectile cannons which fire projectiles up to the size of about a metre in diameter, and many heavy assault rifle. There are also laser sights and headlight.

A battleship can hold up to 60 Gaedrongos, and there are normally two or three in a tribe.

Cargoship

Cargoships are used for ferrying large supplies over long distances. They are circular, and all but the front are used for storage. To keep supplies safe from space pirates, even cargoships are mounted with plasma cannons and projectile cannons.

Cargoships can hold up to 10 Gaedrongos at a time, though there are normally less. Each tribe possesses about three or four.

Carriership

Carrierships are used for when Gaedrongos get together in large gatherings. They are pointed at both ends, and armed like a battleship – plasma cannons, projectile cannons and heavy assault rifles, as well as headlights.

Carrierships can hold up to 25000 Gaedrongos at a time. They are only possessed by a few tribes.

History

Gaedrongos evolved from tentacled semi-sapients. The species then evolved to live on land, and built up the empire that now lives. Their planet of origin remains unknown.

More coming soon.

Intelligence

Gaedrongos are sapient.

Culture

Religion

Gaedrongos have no real religion, believing everything just was.

Government and Law

As the Gaedrongos are tribal, there is little call for government, and each tribe has its own laws. There is, however, a Grand High Council that rules over the entire race, and can call them together in times of peril.

Clothing

Gaedrongos only wear armour.

Interaction with other races

Arbotile

After a tribe landed on Dragovia, there was a brief war between the two races, before they made an alliance.

Lentaa

A damaged Lentaa ship had also crash-landed on Dragovia shortly before the Gaedrongos arrived. As Lentaa and Arbotiles were allies, Gaedrongos and Lentaa became allies too.

Scarabian

Scarabians also lived on Dragovia, and allied with the Gaedrongos.

Salsene

The Salsenes also sent a colony ship to Dragovia, and allied with the Gaedrongos before it was destroyed.

Verplaatsen

The Gaedrongos, Arbotiles, Lentaa, Scarabians and Salsenes formed an alliance to fight off an invasion by the Verplaatsen.

Keraran, Skarg, Vrah, Zyrothan

Merirosvo-Cacador, a pirate hunter, recognised a Keraran ship stolen by a complany of Skarg, Vrah and Zyrothan pirates. He and his crew went on to kill them all.
