Cerberus
The Cerberus is a creature native to Proteus, a moon around Proteus Prime.
Physiology
Looking like a three-headed dog, the Cerberus is 2m tall at the shoulder and over 4.5m long at full size. Although its three heads may seem wasteful, they are necessary due to the power of other creatures in their habitat, which would otherwise escape the Cerberus' grip or kill them by removing a head.
Many elderly Cerberi have lost a head, and the older the animal the brighter its red highlights.
The Cerberi have blackish skin, and low set hips. They can reach high speeds, bounding along at up to 13m/s.
Their tail is long and whip-like, ending in an armoured club.
Reproduction
After the male and female mate, the female gives birth viviparously to a litter of up to three puppies. Their heat comes once a year, and gestation takes two months.
Diet
Exclusively carnivorous, the Cerberus is a very effective predator. It also scavenges, though Harpies make this very difficult.
Intelligence and Behaviour
Reasonably intelligent, the Cerberus is a solitary hunter. It targets the weaker prey animals first, and often uses the terrain to its advantage.
Habitat
The Cerberus is quite widespread, living in forests and plains.
